SOL on Cable Route too - Digital economy

Southern Online Services Limited (SOL), one of the leading Internet Service Providers, has established extensive network in different parts of the state. The company is equipped with an international gateway and a supplementary fibre optic network to provide Internet access through cable networks.

It has increased its points of presence in the state while focusing on value-added services including leased line services. Southern Online has been granted license to provide Internet services in Andhra Pradesh. The company bagged the license in category "B".

In the initial phase, it invested about Rs 3 crore and further about Rs 4 crore in the second phase which includes investment for the gateway. In addition to these, it also launched a specialized one-stop-shop portal-www.apsearch.com, which provides comprehensive information about the state.SOL's access through cable has received good response from the clients.

Southern Online was one of the earliest companies to consolidate its focus on the state-of-the-art infrastructure. At that time, when SOL decided to foray into ISP, there were no real support systems in terms of infrastructure and facilities. Even while the Internet concept was just fructifying in India, by seeing the potential, the company decided to pioneer the 'net' concept. Today, the company had come a long way with proven capabilities and core competencies in Internet Technology.

Its technology and infrastructure are on par with international standards. The network has a highly skilled young professional team. The company recently launched cable connection to provide Internet access through coaxial cables laid from the office to the customers end. It gives the Leased Line. Services through this cable enables the company to avoid mediators between ISP and customers.

On December 10,1998,the company entered into an agreement with the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) to function as a category "B" ISP with in Andhra Pradesh. To provide the best Internet service right at the customer's doorstep in one of the company's objective. With the latest technological support, SOL seeks to set new standards in Internet services. The company has entered in to a technical collaboration agreement with HCL InfoSystems Ltd for cutting edge expertise in the Internet technologies. This is HCL Infosys first project under its www.ow initiative. Its objective is to provide facilities for ISP operations with international gateway and for e-commerce and software development.

Southern Online has a customer base of 3800 dial-up users and 13 corporate clients with points of presence (POP) without even owning gateway and bandwidth. With its own private Gateway, the company has targeted 25,000 dial-up users and 150 corporate clients and also extend operations of value added e-commerce with its portal apsearch.com.

The services rendered by SOL include Dial Up Services, Internet access through CABLE, Leased Lines, Web Hosting, Dedicated Servers. The company promises excellent customer service. Wider bandwidth ensures fast and smooth access to the net at all times, there by saving precious time and money. Moreover, the subscription procedures are simple and hassle free. All one needs to do is to register his name with the company. On subscription, SOL provides its customers a complete Internet access kit, which includes a CD, Floppy(s) and an instruction manual, which will help the customer to install the facility into his network instantaneously. The installation CD includes a lot of free programs, plugins, time-saving utilities and other Internet-based games.

The company provides Dial-up services to the customers right from the domestic users to Computer an Cyber Cafes and has sub-categorized the dial-up services based on various types of customers. Further, the company has various packages like Access 100,Access 250,Access 500, Unlimited Access for single PC users and Cyber Cafes and promises good connectivity as far as technical equipment is concerned. The tariff for the leased line service range from Rs 3,60,000 for Kbps to Rs 11,70,000 for 512 Kbps. The company has planned to reach 25,000 dial-up users plus 150 Leased Line Customers by the end of march 2001.It also plans to expand it's services and network to 20 districts by the same year. The company has plans Leased Line Services on Radio Link with the help of sophisticated technology keeping in view AP State geographical Map with a further investment of Rs 2 crore. It has proposals to provide content management services, and give cross platform E-mail Gateway Services like MS Exchange, MS Mail, CC Mail, Netscape Mail, etc.

Private gateways are being planned in Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam with a further investment of 4 crore to reach more customers with best quality services. Its client base include Tata Communications Ltd, HCL Infosystems Ltd, Forester Bhupathi International Pvt Ltd and Netangle.com Pvt Ltd.
